Michael McGlynn was born in Dublin in 1964. Known for his founding and directing of the Irish choir Anúna, whose recordings have received widespread acclaim, McGlynn has composed in most major genres. His vocal music, in particular, has found a place in the repertory of many choral groups around the world, including Chanticleer and Rajaton. He is just completing an Agnus Dei setting for Chanticleer. McGlynn adds the following remarks: “My greatest source of inspiration has been in traditional and medieval music. I’ve always been fascinated by modality and ornamentation. The harmonic language I use is largely tonal and varies from lush vocal sounds to sparse one- and two-part pieces. Many of the pieces I’ve written integrate techniques originating in folk-music with contemporary techniques.” Nearly all of these points pertain to his successful, six-part choral work entitled The Wild Song.
